Here’s an example..

Let’s say want to promote “New Balance” shoes but you don’t know which style to promote on your site. 

First, go to Google and type in New Balance in the search box and click “Search”

Then on the left hand column, click the link that says “More Search Tools” and click on the “Wonder Wheel” link.

Now your going to see other keywords people are using when searching for New Balance shoes.  If you see a specific one you want to dig deeper on, just click the keyword link.  I will click on the New Balance 992 link and expand it further..

From here, we can see a few long tail keywords related to our expanded search of New Balance 992.  You can continue to dig deeper into each each keyword where you will find many profitable keywords that have little competition.

I started marketing online in 2003.  I had my ups and downs just like anyone else.  I certainly didn’t start making $4,000+ a month overnight.  It actually took me till 2007 for the simple fact that I didn’t know what to do and was always changing my methods for making money online. 

I decided to take a common sense approach to affiliate marketing and got rid of the many ebooks and videos I had bought and unsubscribed from countless emails I was receiving from so-called “gurus” who wanted to charge an arm and leg for a new method of making making.

It’s a fact that digital products such as software and ebooks sell the best online because people can get access to them immediately.  So I started with promoting software from a few vendors I found on CJ.com.  I made a couple review websites, wrote my personal review on the software, and tried to rank specifically for the names of the product. 

Let’s think about this for a moment…

When you search online to buy a product, you already know the name of the product and that’s what you are going to type in Google when searching.  So it should be obvious that those are the keywords you want to rank for.. the PRODUCTS NAME.  I have conversions as high as 32% on affiliate products because I am ranked in the top 3 of Google for the products name.  So when people search for the product, they find my site, read my review, click the link and buy the product.

It became clear to me that this is how affiliate marketing works (at least for me anyways). 

1. Find digital products to promote
2. Build a website or blog themed around that product
3. Write a detailed review of that product and some of its competitors
4. Get each page ranked in Google for the products name
5. Repeat to increase commissions

Believe it or not, the second month I made this blog, the companies products I was promoting was holding an affiliate contest on who could sell the most of one of their treadmills and I had sold the most!  I’m not saying that to brag, but to let you know that it works.

I have been doing this for several years now and each website or blog I create generates me a little more consistent income every month.

Don’t waste time with the newest and latest fad on affiliate marketing.. go to the basics if you want to earn a consistent and secure income through affiliate marketing.

I’m not saying there are no other ways of making money online, of course there are, but when I took a step back to see the obvious, my life started to change.  Take a step back to see where you are.  If you really examine the method you are using to earn money online, does it seem like it will continue to be effective years to come?  Have you put a lot of effort in it and now seen any results?  Was you convinced by a sales letter full of hype that it has to work?
